" --NARAL ObamaCare Will Mandate Taxpayer Funded Abortions The socialized healthcare plans working through Congress do not prohibit an abortion healthcare mandate or taxpayer funding of abortions. In fact, a Senate Committee has already flatly rejected an amendment offered by Sen. Orrin Hatch that would have prohibited taxpayer funding of abortions in ObamaCare. As a result, ObamaCare will require citizens to pay for abortions and millions of businesses will be forced to offer abortion coverage to their employees even if it violates their beliefs! Specifically, I oppose the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) as well as efforts to reverse reasonable restrictions on abortion, require health care workers to participate in abortions, or impose taxpayer funding of abortions. I also oppose the creation of an abortion coverage mandate or mandatory taxpayer funding of abortion through a government health care system. FOCA would reverse the reasonable restrictions that have been placed on abortion (such as parental involvement laws, restrictions on late-term abortions, bans on partial-birth abortions, waiting periods and laws allowing counseling or ultrasounds prior to an abortion). FOCA also forces taxpayers and health care workers to violate their consciences by funding or performing abortions.
